A Multilingual Overview
Following the restorations of Fairmont Creamery, Wagner Awning, and Mueller Lofts, Sustainable Community Associates challenged itself to imagine a new construction project.
Here is what emerged: our favorite artisan bakery, a dynamic community of friends and neighbors, a roof deck and sunken garden to spend the day relaxing, and residential units that recognize the most important amenities are the ones inside your home.
Owned and managed by Sustainable Community Associates, The Tappan offers studios, one bedrooms, and two bedrooms.

The Tappan is also home to Leavened, an artisan bakery located on the first floor. Launched by Ian Herrington, Leavened offers handcrafted items from breads and baguettes to sandwiches, buns, and cookies. Everything is made daily on site by Ian and his team. Leavened has quickly become a Cleveland favorite, where newcomers and longtime neighbors can gather for delicious bites.
A Global Community
Since opening in 2020, The Tappan has formed a robust community of lifelong Clevelanders and people from all across the globe. Among them are local teachers, young professionals, and medical residents and doctors who came to Cleveland to continue their work at nearby hospitals.
What Our Residents Have to Say
As a resident physician at one of the local hospitals, I have been able to make the Tappan my oasis-at-home when returning from long days at work. The windows are huge - and the sunsets are gorgeous. When the weather is nice, the roof is also the perfect escape with a great view of downtown. On the first floor is a bakery (Leavened) that has some of the best baked goods in the city! My boyfriend and I are also always surprised with how much food we are able to get for seemingly so little money. And any time I have a need, the SCA management team has been so incredibly responsive and proactive with any concern.
Big fan of this building! I moved here because I teach in Cleveland and wanted to live in Cleveland, not the suburbs. The building is great; brand new with lots of amenities like a gym and a bakery on the first floor. The owners hosted a "Giving Tree" this holiday season for kids living in the Merrick House. I was so moved; knowing I live in a place were people care about others. The community has hosted a number of socially distanced happy hours (grab and go) and a rooftop yoga session. I'm totally looking forward to the day when Covid doesn't rule the social interactions.
Living at the Tappan has been such an amazing experience! The building is beautiful and newly constructed as of last year with great furnishings. It is ideally located near local shops and restaurants. The best thing about living here though has been the management team. Everyone is extremely welcoming, responsive, helpful, and caring. They make the experience that much greater, hosting events and doing everything they can to enhance your time in the community.
Living at The Tappan was an amazing experience due to the management. If I didn’t have to move, I definitely would’ve stayed longer. Joe (landlord) and Caitlin (leasing manager) made living here incredibly easy. They answered any questions in a timely manner and were very accommodating. Another big positive is that the management is honest, there are no surprises. Now for the apartment itself, it’s brand new which is always nice. The electric bill is super cheap because they use a very energy efficient system. They are extremely pet friendly and even have a free pet washing station. Also, the building is connected to the Leavened bakery which is convenient. I highly recommend this apartment to anyone.
A Vibrant Neighborhood
Tremont is one of Cleveland’s most vibrant neighborhoods, with a rich cultural, architectural, and manufacturing history dating back to the 1800s. Known today for its eclectic and award-winning restaurants, local coffeehouses and boutiques, and annual arts and culture festivals, Tremont is a neighborhood that both celebrates tradition and invites newcomers of all types.
The Tappan’s location puts residents just minutes from Lincoln Park and the ever-expanding Towpath, as well as other Cleveland highlights, including Ohio City, Downtown, and Edgewater.
